Interim injunction granted against tourism association over Wonderland Tours membership

Justice Diana Insanally earlier this week granted an interim injunction preventing the members of The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) from excluding Wonderlands Tours from its membership.

Wonderland Tours moved to the court over what it called an “unjust” expulsion from the Association which it is said had its online profile with the prestigious World Travel Market deactivated. Wonderland Tours was a founder-member of THAG.

Alisha Figuiera, owner of Wonderland Tours filed legal action against Paul Stephenson, the president; Trinia Butts, Executive Director/company secretary; Paul Waldron, Vice President; Mitra Ramkumar, treasurer and board members Sydney Allicock and Colin Edwards

According to court documents dated March 12, the judge upon reading the ex parte application on the part of Figuiera sworn to and filed on November 24, 2010, the affidavit of Butts sworn to on March 23 last and written submissions on behalf of both parties made her decision.

The injunction was granted restraining all the defendants “whether by themselves, their servants and/or agents and each and everyone of them from preventing the Plaintiff or her duly authorized representative from being a members of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana and or from enjoying the membership of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana until the hearing and determination of this action”.

The court also ordered that the defendants pay cost to Figuiera in the sum of $20,000.
