Only prescribed officers can issue visas, work permits

The Ministry of Home Affairs has not authorised any person other than the prescribed officer at the ministry and the immigration officer at the airport to collect fees chargeable for the issuing of visas, extensions or work permits.

In a press release, the ministry advises the public that the official fees chargeable for visas on arrival are as follows: Business Visas on Arrival (VoA)- US$140; Employment VoA – US$140; Visitors VoA – US$140 and Student VoA – US$25. These fees are payable only to the prescribed officer either at the ministry or the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at Timehri.

Persons found collecting and/or soliciting money as a charge for facilitating the processing of VoAs, work permits and Extensions of Stay applications will be prosecuted in accordance with the Laws of Guyana.
