Gold miner on cutlass wounding charge placed on $200,000 bail

Gold miner Royston Abrams was yesterday placed on $200,000 bail by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Otimo Hinds.

Prosecutor Jairam Lukhai told the court that on March 18 in the Tamaka Backdam, Middle Mazaruni, the accused used a cutlass to unlawfully and maliciously wound Hinds with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.

Lukhai had objected to bail on the grounds that the victim is still in hospital and if the accused is given his pre-trial liberty he may not return to court.

The case was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for March 29.
