Roopnaraine to ask Ramsammy about ethanol pact, flooding

Vice-Chairman of A Partnership for National Unity, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine will in an upcoming sitting of the National Assembly ask  Minister of Agriculture Dr Leslie Ramsammy  to provide the details of the agreement reached to avail a foreign investor state land for the establishment of a facility to produce ethanol.

The question refers to a Memorandum of Agreement with Trinidadian conglomerate ANSA McAl.

Dr. Roopnaraine is also to question the Minister on the total sums so far spent on drainage in the Demerara region since 2005, specifically to control the flooding of the Mahaica and Mahaicony areas caused by the release of water from the East Demerara Water Conservancy into the Mahaica River.

“Can the Minister explain why the Mahaica River continues to be incapable of draining any significant volume of water over the past 7 years?” Dr. Roopnaraine is to ask.

Carl Greenidge, APNU’s Shadow Finance Minister is to ask Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh to provide for the House the computation by which he has determined that the ceiling of 2% stipulated in the Fiscal Management and Accountability Act of 2003 has been met.

Renis Morian, APNU MP of Region 10 is to ask the Minister of Agriculture to provide copies of the contract document for the ‘Strengthening of National and Local Capacities for Disaster Response and Reduction’. Further, he is to ask that the Minister provide the plan for Disaster Preparedness for Region #10 and state who is the official point person responsible for this project.
