There should be no budgetary allocation for NCN

Dear Editor,
It is time the people of Guyana stand up to demand that there be no budgetary allocations or subventions for the National Communications Network (NCN) as this entity is used purely as a propaganda machine for the PPP/C. It is for this reason that I propose that the tenth parliament vote to ensure that this state agency is not funded or subsidized by the people of Guyana via their tax dollars.

Its output is primarily geared towards inundating the people of Guyana with PPP/C propaganda. For too long the citizens have been complaining about the politicization of state agencies, and it is time that we used our legislative power to change this; to do less would be to act against the wishes of the electorate and to foster the PPP/C agenda.

It makes sense to have the money allocated to prop up the PPP/C mouthpiece to go to enhance old age pensions and public assistance. Let us vote to have the money allocated to spew PPP/C propaganda diverted to Linden to offset the electricity costs of this community that has not seen any major developmental and economic take-off in the last two decades.

It is time that the people, through their representatives, decide how we invest in, and utilize state resources. The last general and regional elections have provided us with a unique situation to determine whether we continue to stick with the status quo or make a conscious effort to take the lead and change course. Will we be coerced and bullied by the PPP/C’s usual psychological ploy? I hope not! State resources belong to the people of Guyana and not to the PPP/C; let us make this reality known.
Yours faithfully,
Lurlene Nestor
