Condition of boy struck down at Friendship worsens

The condition of the 12-year-old, who was on Tuesday struck down by a minibus on the Friendship, East Bank Demerara public road, has worsened.

Craig Primary School student Mohamed ‘Kevin’ Ramnarine has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital. Ramnarine, of Lot 37 ‘C’ Dam, Friendship, East Bank Demerara, was flung some ten feet away after being hit by a Linden/Soesdyke bus, which was at the time transporting passengers to Georgetown.

The child was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, from where he was subsequently transported to the city hospital.

The boy’s mother, Sally Ramnarine, yesterday told this newspaper that although her son suffered head injuries, a scan revealed that he sustained no injury to the brain. She said she does not understand the findings, since her son has fallen into a coma and doctors said there is no choice but to give him time to “come around.”

“His whole head and one side of his face swell up and he is still not responding… one and two time you would see his one leg moving but that is it,” she said. The woman said the boy’s body is badly bruised and he has been bandaged.

She added that the driver of the vehicle which hit her son remained in police custody and suggested that the police are probably awaiting a report on her son’s condition before releasing him.
