Ex-Top Cop Greene hospitalised

Former Police Commissioner Henry Greene was up to press time last evening a patient at a city hospital after he took ill earlier in the day.

Greene’s lawyer, Neil Boston, confirmed his hospitalisation, saying that the information he had was that Greene was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Hospital.

This newspaper was told that Greene was at a private city hospital.

Because of his hospitalisation, Greene missed his mother’s funeral. Boston, who helped Greene successfully battle a rape charge that was recommended against him, said that the funeral service was being conducted at the First Assembly of God Church on D’Urban Street at the time of his hospitalisation.

Last May, Greene spent several days in the ICU of the Balwant Singh Hospital. It was reported that he had had surgery on a ruptured vein and his digestive tract. He had also previously been hospitalised at the Caribbean Heart Institute.

Last month, it was announced that Greene had tendered his resignation with immediate effect to President Donald Ramotar. The resignation letter, which was dated April 19, 2012, was accepted.

His resignation followed intense public pressure for him to go, in light of the rape allegation made against him by a woman in December last year.
