38 persons participated in National Quranic Competition

The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) said 38 persons participated in a National Quranic Competition it held recently at the Meten-Meer-Zorg west masjid.

According to a press release, the contest was conducted by Shaik Safraz Bacchus on April 28. Twenty-one participants competed in the junior category and 17 in the senior. The top finishers were given an assortment of prizes such as cash, trophies and other incentives.

The main objectives of the competition were to ensure the proper recitation of the Quran and encourage youths “to learn, to recite and appreciate the words of Allah,” the release said.
