Russian envoy to speak at manufacturers luncheon

Russian Ambassador to Guyana, Nikolay D Smirnov will be making a feature presentation on Russian economics and politics at the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) business luncheon today at the Regency Suites.

Smirnov is expected to give an address titled ‘The New Russia – Its Economics and Politics’.

In a press release, the GMSA said Smirnov, a career diplomat was posted to Guyana just over a year ago and represents the largest country in the world with over 150 million people. “Over the past few years, the economic power of the Russian Federation has grown significantly and the country is now characterized as one of the world’s burgeoning economies. It holds a strong position as one of the BRIC countries alongside Brazil, India and China,” the release said.

The GMSA business luncheons which are usually held quarterly, provide a platform for discussion aimed at getting local entrepreneurs better informed about issues such as commerce, politics and socio-economics in the global market. It also aims at opening additional avenues for international trade.

The luncheon is set for 11.30am.
