The children of Enmore are deprived of their playfields because cars, machinery stored on them

Dear Editor,

I write to support Lennox Arthur’s appeal that “public open spaces should be developed so youngsters can play football, etc” (Stabroek News, May16).

There is a public open space at Blossom Scheme, Enmore, which children would normally use to play cricket and volleyball.  But for the past 5 months, a car dealer who has contacts in the Enmore local authority and the East Coast police has been storing about 100 vehicles on the playfield, depriving the children of its use.

In Logwood Enmore, also, there is a contractor who has taken over an area with his machinery. Again children have been deprived of the use of a playfield.

Writing to the local authority is a waste of time.

So, Mr Arthur, the children of Enmore have to sacrifice sports for wealthy people.  I hope the Minister reads this letter and gives back these spaces to the children of Enmore.

Yours faithfully,
Seeranie Indarpaul
