Man from Rupununi jailed for ammo

A man from North Rupununi was yesterday sentenced to three years in prison and fined $7,500 after he pleaded guilty to having ammunition in his possession, without being the holder of a licence, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Hazel Octave- Hamilton.

Winston Frank confessed to having in his possession on May 17 at North Rupununi one 9.1 CBC round.

The prosecution stated that on May 17, ranks from Lethem Police Station went to Frank’s home where they carried out a search. During the search, a bag next to Frank’s home was found with the ammunition inside, and a yellow, empty 20-gauge cartridge.

The items were then shown to Frank who confirmed that they belonged to him. He was then arrested and taken into custody.

Before imposing penalty on Frank, the magistrate asked him if there is anything he would like to say  and   he responded: “I don’t think I want to say anything.”
