Trucker knocks down biker, drives off with bag

The driver of a pick-up truck is on the run after he struck down a motorcyclist, United States citizen, Micaiah Young, 21, along the Bath Settlement Public Road around 9 am yesterday.

And as if Young’s injuries to his head, leg and other parts of his body were not enough, the driver made off with his duffle bag containing his laptop computer, driver’s licence as well as other documents and his wallet with a small amount of cash.

That was after the driver dropped the injured man to the Fort Wellington Hospital for treatment. Young, who is staying at No 8 Village, West Coast Berbice was returning home from No 22 Village where the Jehovah’s Witnesses are building a ‘Kingdom Hall’ church.

The mangled bike

He recalled that he was “riding straight all the time when the driver in a blue beat-up pick-up truck was making a right turn on the turn and he pulled out right in front of me.”

He said the pick-up struck him and “I flipped over it and landed on the road… and there’s not much left of the bike.”

According to Young, the driver offered to take him to the hospital and he collected his bag and got into the pick-up.

He said too that “rather than going to the police station first we went to the hospital first and my friends from the Kingdom Hall came to see me… and the driver “took off.”

Despite being in a lot of pain, Young said he felt lucky that his injuries were not worse given the condition of his bike.
