Fire damages bedroom at ‘Pradoville’ house

A fire believed to be caused by someone smoking cigarettes yesterday destroyed two beds in a room at a house in ‘Pradoville 1,’ Ogle Airstrip Road, East Coast Demerara, said to belong to former head of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit, Lambert Marks.

The fire, which began some time yesterday morning, was limited to the bedroom and no one was at home when the fire started.

When this newspaper visited the scene yesterday, the owner was not at home and a male relative who was inside the building declined to give a comment.

The ‘Pradoville 1’ house said to belong to Lambert Marks where fire broke out yesterday morning destroying two beds in a bedroom.

According to a policeman who was at the scene, the firemen gained entry into the building through the front door which was open, at which time the entire building was filled with smoke.

He added that they were also informed that someone was in the building.

He said the firemen then proceeded to contain the fire and searched to see if anyone was inside. No one was inside, he added, but next to the bed in the room where the fire occurred there were smoking articles such as lighters indicating that someone had been smoking in the room.
