David Williams appointed T&T senior team coach

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad,  CMC – David Williams, overlooked for the post of West Indies assistant coach earlier this year, has been appointed head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago senior side.

David Williams

The 48-year-old, who played 11 Tests and 36 One-Day Internationals between 1992 and 1996, replaces namesake Kelvin Williams who will now serve as assistant coach. David Williams held the post of T&T head coach up to 2008 when he resigned to take up the position as assistant to then Windies head coach, Australian John Dyson.

He led West Indies on the one-day tour of Australia in February, 2010 following Dyson’s departure before Ottis Gibson took over for Zimbabwe’s tour of the Caribbean immediately afterward. David Williams continued as assistant coach on a tour-by-tour basis until March this year when he was replaced by Englishman Toby Radford. A former West Indies wicketkeeper, Williams will lead the T&T youth side to the WICB Under-19 Championship in July/August before taking up the senior team post.

His first major assignment is expected to be the T20 Champions League in India, scheduled for October.
