Boy, 16, among two on carjacking, robbery charges

A 16-year-old boy was charged along with a 21-year-old man jointly for armed robbery and carjacking at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo committed the boy to the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) Juvenile Centre and remanded his co-accused, who also faced two separate charges.

The court heard that on May 30, the boy and Brian Danpat, of Smythfield, robbed Arjune Nancomar at gunpoint and took the car he was driving. The duo was not required to plead to the charges.

It is alleged that at Angoy’s Avenue, at Timmers dam, they robbed Nancomar of a 192 motorcar valued $1.1M, a cellular phone valued $5,000 and $10,900, a total value of $1,115,900, and all the property of Safrazz Ali.
They were ordered to return to court on June 25.

Danpat also faced two other charges. The court heard that on May 30 he also robbed Nancomar of two silver bangles, valued $200,000, a gold ring valued $15,000, and two driver’s licences. In total, he is alleged to have stolen $224,500. He was not required to plead to the charge and was denied bail.

It was also alleged that on November 19, 2011, Danpat unlawfully and maliciously caused bodily harm to Joseph Grant. The court heard that Danpat had been summoned but failed to appear in court.

He was not required to plead to the charge. He was further remanded and ordered to appear in court on June 25 for hearings associated with the two additional charges.
