There should not be two mothers and their babies to a bed in the Georgetown hospital

Dear Editor,

Two mothers and two babies sleeping on one bed measuring 6ft 3″ x 3ft 2″ – isn’t this truly unacceptable? I would like the CEO of the Georgetown Public Hospital, Mr Michael Khan and Matron Corry to please get this problem fixed, and to stop this treatment of our mothers and babies.

Not because it is a public hospital should this be tolerated; it must be remembered that these mothers or their families somewhere along the line contributed PAYE and they need to be treated much better than this.

My daughter had a CS at the Linden Hospital Complex and after two days her baby started vomiting bloody fluid which he may have drunk during the process of the CS.

The baby was not suctioned to clear the stomach after the CS. The mother and baby were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, which is when I became aware of the problem at the hospital – two mothers and their babies sleeping on one small bed.

I am left to wonder how things like this can happen when there is a CEO, Matron, Minister of Health, many doctors, sisters, staff nurses dealing with and visiting this ward every minute of the day. Can none of them change this situation? Why should we invest billions of dollars on a Marriott Hotel and our wives, mothers and babies need better conditions in the hospital?

Yours faithfully,
Robert Jones
