No bail for convict facing new assault charge

A man who assaulted a woman living in the same house with him was yesterday remanded to prison, after he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday to answer another charge of common assault.

Ameer Khan, 21, of Hadfield and Smythe Streets, Werk-en-rust, pleaded not guilty to the offence. The allegation against Khan is that on Wednesday at Smythe Street, he assaulted Neketa Edwards who resides in the same house with him.

Bail was denied for Khan after the prosecution told the court that the accused was sentenced previously for a similar offence, where he assaulted Edwards. After hearing this, the magistrate then remanded the accused until June 18, when he will return to court.
