‘Pick-it-up’ campaign launched in Linden

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment launched its ‘Pick it up Guyana’ campaign in Linden on Saturday, which coincided with the Ride-for-the-Environment event held to mark World Environment Day.

According to a ministry press release, the activities were being coordinated by the Environmental Protection Agency under the theme ‘Green Economy: does it include you?’ In Linden, Permanent Secretary Joslyn McKenzie spearheaded the programme, advocating for a clean and healthy environment. He also encouraged them to adopt proper waste management practices.

The release said the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority staff and participants in the riding event were the key persons responsible for the clean-up exercise at Coop Crescent, which was endorsed by Regional Executive Officer Yolanda Hillman. The campaign aims to “clean up” Guyana by reducing the indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
