Trash should not be left for someone else to ‘pick it up’

Dear Editor,

The “Pick it up Guyana” thrust of the campaign launched by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment seems to imply that it is all right to put trash down so that it can be picked up.  Could the campaign address the need to put trash somewhere that eliminates the step of “picking it up”?

I have been picking up trash from the grass verge (yes, there is still grass) in front of my “yard” and from the gutter for years, trash which I did not deposit there.  I would like to stop having to pick it up.

I look forward to the day when folks in Guyana dispose of their trash in receptacles in their yards, in their work places and on the street.  I believe that folks need to know that it is appropriate to take their trash with them until they find a suitable receptacle rather than leaving it wherever they are for someone else to pick it up!

Yours faithfully,
