Cops still seeking driver over Carifesta Ave fatality

Police have still not captured the businessman who fled the scene after the May 26, Carifesta Avenue accident that claimed the life of a man.

Buddy (only name given), the owner of a Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara business, fled Carifesta Avenue after he slammed his Toyota Allion, PNN 3607, into the tray of a truck which was at the time reversing from the Georgetown Softball Cricket Ground.

He subsequently ran into the ditch opposite the Burrowes School of Arts.

His employee, Mohammed Zaheed Abraham, of Lot 218 De Souza Street, Better Hope, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident, died before he could be pulled from the vehicle by rescuers.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the man suffered brain damage and injury to the spinal cord.

Although this newspaper was told by relatives of the deceased that the businessman had turned himself in to police after which he negotiated a compensation agreement, police denied the claims, saying that the man was still being sought.
