Still no charges against man in rape of girl, 14, at Tuschen

Charges are still to be laid against the 62-year-old man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in the backyard of his Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo home.

On April 15, the man was seen from some distance by neighbours committing a sexual act with the child in the yard and authorities were alerted and he was later arrested. He was released on $20,000 station bail.

When this newspaper contacted a relative of the child on Tuesday, it was pointed out that the accused never made a court appearance.

The source said statements were taken from the child’s parents and the alleged offender by the police, who said that the file would be sent to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice on the way forward.

The victim in this case is also said to be recovering well and has readjusted to her academic and extracurricular activities.

Meanwhile, Kishore ‘Blackboy’ Narine, of Riverstown, Essequibo Coast, was expected to make another appearance at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl.

The child went missing on January 24, after she was seen leaving her home in a car around midnight with a man, said to be Narine. Two weeks later, the girl was spotted boarding a boat at the Alfro Alphonso Wharf at Charity with the man. They were reportedly leaving for Venezuela.

Narine was taken into police custody and was subsequently charged with rape.

This newspaper understands that on the last occasion the man was brought before the court, the prosecution was without the statements made by the accused since April 27.

As a result, he was granted bail and the matter was adjourned.
