85 students to graduate during St John week

The St John Association of Guyana is encouraging persons to participate in health programmes during its week of activities, which began on Sunday and concludes on Saturday, June 30.

Commencing this annual event, which included a variety of programmes aimed at publicizing its works, was a church service at St George’s Cathedral, followed by a parade of military and para-military groups, a press release stated.

Yesterday members appeared on NCN Channel 11 and Radio Roraima to highlight activities of the organization.

Today volunteer members will visit Homes for the Elderly and Disabled, and that will include St Vincent DePaul Home on Thomas Street, Gentle Women Homestead and St Vincent DePaul Nazareth Home at Carmichael Street.

Highlighting its health activities, St John Association will hold an outreach programme tomorrow at William Fogarty’s Store where blood pressure testing and random sugar testing will be done for the public. Additionally, there will be health tips on HIV and smoking.

On Thursday, the Golden Years Club of St John Association of Guyana will host a concert which will include dancing and modelling and the following day there will be activities at St John Headquarters at 110 Cowan Street, Kingston, Georgetown.

The week’s activities will climax on Saturday when 85 students will receive their certificates in First Aid and Home Nursing at a graduation exercise at 15:00 hrs.
