Building Expo exhibitors get training in planning, marketing and sales

Twenty-four representatives participated in a one-day training programme hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Water for companies participating in the 2012 Building Expo.

According to a press release, participants from 20 companies were exposed to topics such as trade show planning and promotion, budgeting, adequately staffing the booth, effective marketing and sales, securing orders and leads, turning inquiries into sales, exhibiting overseas, calculating a return on investment, post show evaluation and follow-up from the session titled ‘Successful Exhibiting Maximising Your Trade Show Investment.’

The participants came from various sectors of the building industry and ancillary services including construction, home furnishing, housing development, electrical and hardware companies, insurance and security.

Training was conducted by business consultant Sandra Ann Baptiste, a specialist in international marketing, training, business development and communications. She has conducted trade show training for over ten years.

The release said Building Expo is a partnership between the government, specifically the ministry’s Central Housing and Planning Authority and the private sector. Almost 100 companies, including from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Suriname, Brazil, Canada and the United States have signed up to participate in this year’s trade fair compared to 80 companies in 2011.
