Why haven’t the WI Coach and Captain done the right thing?

Dear Editor,

Why haven’t Coach Gibson and Captain Sammy of the WI ‘done the right thing‘? Why can’t the WICB and the rest of the WI hierarchy generally behave more in keeping with the times?  In every other main sport – football, soccer, baseball, basketball and even among other cricketing nations – if there had been a tour where the team had won nothing in three different aspects of a particular sport (and not even come close except on paper), at least the coach and the captain would have resigned or they would have been fired after strident calls for them to go.

The coach and the captain of the WI team are both reasonably articulate dealing with the media, but they are perfect examples of ‘been there, said that’ rather than ‘been there, done that’!

If what they say is enough for them to be able to continue in their positions, let them be.  However, most of us would wish to see winning results from our team at least once in a while.
Besides being able to talk the talk, they must be able to walk the walk.

Should these two goodly gentlemen be allowed to continue merrily along, seemingly secure in their positions for the New Zealand tour (and perhaps, heaven forbid, even further)?

As someone somewhere must have said some time ago, this confounded nonsense must stop!
Yours faithfully,
C E Housty
