The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport said several staff members recently participated in “specialised, professional enhancement courses” to better serve the Department of Culture and the nation.

CEO at the National Trust of Guyana Nirvana Persaud participated in a ten-day UNESCO Caribbean Training Course in the Preparation of Nomination Dossiers in Kingston, Jamaica.

The session was aimed at enhancing participants’ abilities in preparing nominations through which a country’s heritage sites are considered for inclusion by international entities, such as World Heritage and UNESCO, a press release from the ministry said.

Nadia Madho, also of National Trust, joined representatives from 19 other countries at the Fifteenth International Course on Wood Conservation Technology in Oslo, Norway. The session was described as a “highly technical presentation course.”

Shebana Daniels, of the Water Roth Museum of Anthropology, attended the Network of Amazon Rainforest Museums Seminar in Cayenne, French Guiana. “The cross-border workshop examined areas of co-operation amongst museums from Guyana, Suriname, Brazil and French Guiana, with respect to cultural mediation related to the cross-border nature of the Guiana Highlands,” the ministry said.

In addition, acting Administrator and Taxidermist at the National Museum, Elford Liverpool, is heading to Canada to complete an MSc Degree under the auspices of the Royal Ontario Museum.
