There should be a financial investigation of the Better Hope/LBI NDC

Dear Editor,

Now that there is a report which appeared in the Guyana Chronicle of July 3, that police are currently investigating three officers allegedly responsible for major financial irregularities at the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC), many taxpayers within the NDC of Better Hope/LBI would like to ask for a financial investigation of their NDC office which is situated at the Better Hope Community Centre.

It seems that two officials were sacked recently but the reason has not been made public to taxpayers. Also it is alleged that there have been serious financial indiscretions at the NDC office.

Taxpayers are also concerned that every year rates and taxes increase for some and remain the same for others. Specifically, taxpayers are worried that a bobcat tractor was bought with their money at an exorbitant price, and is now sitting in a graveyard at the Better Hope Community Centre as scrap iron, with some of its working parts already plundered and removed. Taxpayers are also worried that a new bobcat was bought recently for several millions dollars with their money to replace the defunct one, and was seen recently being used for private purposes.

Taxpayers are also concerned that one former officer gets his property manicured and his drainage cleared regularly while theirs are neglected by the council.

Several taxpayers are also worried and concerned that a relative of a former official is the sole mechanic/repairman for the new bobcat.

And finally Editor, some taxpayers are now learning what the word ‘nepotism’ means, and have been able to see it in practice. Let us leave ‘Machiavellianism’ for another time!

Yours faithfully,
