Company to stand funeral expenses of strangled watchman

Officials of KRS Construc-tion Co Inc. have agreed to stand the funeral expenses of the watchman who was strangled while on duty at their New Hope, East Bank Demerara worksite.

Narotam ‘Breads’ Holodar, 54, of Lot 540 Cinema Street, Diamond, East Bank Demerara died on Wednesday morning following an attack reportedly carried out by four men, who intruded the site and reportedly beat, tied and strangled him before escaping with some heavy-duty machinery. A second watchman, who was on duty at the time—Ramcharran ‘Dave-Boy’ Samaroo—escaped unharm-ed.

Stabroek News spoke to the dead man’s daughter, Rowena Holodar on Friday, who said the family has been offered assistance with the funeral for which they are thankful. “The people from his work said they are going to help us.

“It’s best we accept rather than get nothing at all,” she said.

When contacted, an employee of the construction company told this newspaper that the manager is currently in Trinidad and would be the only appropriate person to speak to in relation to the incident.

When asked about the stolen items, she said that while staff members were made aware that equipment was taken, they were not told what specifically.

Stabroek News could not ascertain whether or not Samaroo, who had been held, was still in police custody as both he and his wife were said to be out during calls made to their home.

The man was kept at the Grove Police Station on Wednesday evening and although released the following morning, he was asked to return that same afternoon. Efforts made to contact the Police Public Relations office for an update into the matter proved futile.
