Man placed on bond over threat to bash in sister’s teeth with hammer

A man who cursed and threatened to bash in his sister’s teeth with a hammer because she spoke to him about cleaning his room was yesterday placed on a bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.

Shawn Anthony, 39, accepted the July 10 charges which stated that he made use of abusive and threatening language to Wendy Anthony, thereby resulting in a breach of the peace.

Shawn Anthony, in response to the charges, said that the room his sister wanted him to clean was his but she wanted to covet it.

According to him, everything he told her during the argument, she told him as well.

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Magistrate Octive-Hamilton reprimanded the defendant for what he had done. She told him that while siblings argue from time to time, it should never get to such lengths.

She said that while the room is his and he should be left to keep it how he wants, and while what his sister did was a good gesture, it gave him no right to say what he had said to his sister.

She then warned him not to make any further trouble with his sister and to apologise to her for his conduct. She also cautioned him to be of good behaviour and pointed out that failure to uphold the conditions of the bond will result in imprisonment.

The prosecution in its address to the court said that the defendant told his sister that he would go away to Cayenne after bashing in her teeth with a hammer. The defendant did not deny making such a threat.

The virtual complainant was not present at court.
