Guyana represented on cultural industries study tour to Europe

Guyana was represented among 22 CARIFORUM Cultural Industries firms that participated in a European Study Tour organised by Caribbean Export Develop-ment Agency (Caribbean Export) and African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Business Climate (BizClim) from July 2 to July 11.

The firms, representing fashion, music and audiovisual industries, were from Guyana as well as Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago, a press release from Caribbean Export Development Agency said.

The study tour took the firms to Manchester (UK), Berlin (Germany) and Paris (France).

“The cultural industries sector has the potential to deliver significant benefits to the region through innovation and knowledge creation, as well as contribute to economic growth in the Caribbean,” commented Pamela Coke-Hamilton, Executive Director of Caribbean Export. “As such the objective of this tour is to foster dialogue between European and CARIFORUM business leaders with the view to enhance the region’s investment potential,” Coke-Hamilton concluded.

In addition to meeting counterpart organisations and companies during the tour, it was anticipated that a roadmap for the development of the sector within the EU market would be presented and discussed at the 2nd CARIFORUM-EU Business Forum.

The Cultural Industries Study Tour and the 2nd CARIFORUM-EU Business Forum is made possible through the support from the ACP BizClim Programme Management Unit and the European Union’s 10th European Development Fund (EDF) Regional Private Sector Development Pro-gramme (RPSDP), the release concluded.
