The socio-economic crisis in Linden is on the front burner at tremendous cost

Dear Editor,
Every nation has periods in its history where a singular event or series of events, inevitably leads to profound changes hitherto unimaginable. Guyana is no different. Linden on July 18, 2012 is on the lips of all Guyanese at home and in the diaspora. The socio-economic crisis in the mining town is now on the front burner at a tremendous cost.

The ‘Linden Martyrs,’ as they are now known, paid the supreme sacrifice. What has emerged from this tragic encounter between peaceful protesters and law enforcement officers will undoubtedly result in serious consequences for some.

The quality of leadership that has arisen out of all if this must be applauded, and whoever identified Mr Sharma Solomon and Ms Vanessa Kissoon as APNU’s  representatives in Region 10 should takes a bow, for they have impressed most Guyanese enormously. It is my humble opinion that stability and the future economic thrust in Linden will not be compromised, and this augurs well for the future of the region and by extension Guyana. It is my belief that the political careers of a few will come to an inglorious end, because of vanity, delusion and plain stupidity.
Yours faithfully,
Lloyd Davidson
