Stolen car of ‘Dem a watch me’ singer found burnt in cemetery

Popular chutney artiste, Mahendra Ramkellawan of Eccles, East Bank Demerara, had his Toyota Allion car stolen, stripped and set alight by car hijackers early yesterday morning.

The car, which was parked in the owner’s yard, was stolen around 12.30 am yesterday and was driven to the Le Repentir cemetery where it was stripped and set alight. The ‘Dem a watch me singer’ said that heparked and locked his car as well as his gate and went  into his home when he heard his car alarm going off.

Upon investigating he saw his car being driven out of his yard and called the police.  He went on to relate that along with some others he went in search of the vehicle when someone told him he should check the Le Repentir cemetery.  Upon checking the burial ground he indeed found his car which had been stripped and set alight. The only way he was able to recognize it was from his wallet and some other documents he had in the vehicle.

The police were later called to the scene following which the damaged vehicle was taken to the Providence Police Station. The police are currently investigating the matter.
