Man reprimanded over assault, threats to sister

Cleon Forrester, who was charged with physically and verbally abusing his sister, was yesterday given a stern warning by the court.

Forester, 25, appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, but the charges against him were dismissed after his sister, Althea Roberts, indicated that she did not wish to proceed against him Forrester had denied all three charges made against him.

Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, counsel for the accused, told the court that Roberts did not wish to give evidence against her brother and proceed with the matter.

Roberts, who was present, attested to this, stating that she had indicated to the police some time after making the report that she did not wish to pursue litigation against her brother, but she “just wanted them to give him a stern warning.”

However, the defendant was detained and brought before the court.

Magistrate Octive-Hamilton inquired about the nature of the dispute between the siblings, but Forrester appeared remorseful and remained quiet.  At this point, Roberts broke down into tears. “I can’t tell him what to do. He is a big man. He don’t listen,” she told the court.

After Forrester was given a stern warning to treat his sister respectably since they live in the same home, the case was dismissed.
