Defending champs Young Achievers reach semis

Defending champions Young Achievers are through to the semi-finals of the Trade Wind Tankers True Champions volleyball tournament following play in the second leg of the tournament last Saturday at the National Gymnasium.

Young Achievers clinched the number one spot with a total of 291 points after winning the Two’s format and placing second in the Fours and Sixes.

Port Mourant Training School is in second place with 266 points having won the Sixes, placed third in the Fours and fifth in the Twos while the third place spot went to Rollers with a total of 263 points after placing third in the Sixes, fifth in the Fours and second in the Twos format.

Hosts Castrol Strikers took the final semi-final spot after accumulating 257 points from winning the Fours placing fifth in the Sixes and fourth in the Twos.

Port Mourant Jaguars and Lusignan Volleyball teams who accumulated 252 and 167 points respectively were eliminated from the tournament after placing fifth and sixth respectively.

Young Achievers and Castrol will receive $20,000 each for winning the Twos and Fours respectively while Achievers will receive an additional $10,000 for placing second in the fours.

The semi-finals will take place on Saturday with Young Achievers battling Castrol for a place in the final while second place Port Mourant Training School will take on their Berbice counterparts Rollers to determine the other team for the gold medal match up.

The winning team will receive $80,000 with $60,000 going to the runners-up while the third and fourth-placed finishers will receive $40,000 and $20,000 respectively.

The final will be played on September 1 at the National Gymnasium.
