Rebuilding of burnt Linden school to start next week

Efforts to rebuild the razed One Mile Primary School in Linden will begin on Sunday, Region 10 Chairman Sharma Solomon announced yesterday.

“We have already had significant input with regards to finding the estimates and also have already started acquiring materials to rebuild that school and we will rebuild that school very quickly with the resources coming from the people of Linden,” Solomon told a press conference yesterday.

Solomon stated that the region strongly condemns the burning of the school. He said that on Sunday coming, the people of Linden will start to clear the grounds of the building. “We will start to rebuild that school ourselves,” he added.

The school, where over 800 children were enrolled, was destroyed in a pre-dawn arson attack on Sunday, when men, who claimed to be part of the “struggle,” stormed the compound.

It was reported that the arsonists had bottles of gasoline in their possession and it was residents who apprehended the suspects and handed them over to a soldier.

Two men were later arrested in connection with the arson, but police released them saying that there was not sufficient evidence to lay charges.
