City warns property-tax defaulters of likely legal action

The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) is urging Georgetown residents to pay their rates and taxes while warning  property owners that failure to engage the council in property-tax issues can result in legal action being taken against them.

The council has put in place a quarterly payment system for persons who may find it difficult to make a one-off payment, the M&CC said in a press release.

The quarterly payments became due on 1st of January, April, July and October respectively.

Further, persons who may have large sums of money outstanding because of accumulation of rates for a number of years are encouraged to come in and speak with the city treasurer, so that a payment plan can be worked out, the release stated.
