Carpenter charged with murdering No.68 Village boy

Twenty-one- year-old Fazal Mohamed aka Zal was yesterday charged with murdering seven-year- old Saheed Makatnauth of No. 68 village housing scheme squatting area, Corentyne.

Mohamed, a carpenter who resides at No. 67 village, Corentyne was yesterday placed before the Magistrate Krisndat Persaud at the Springlands court where he was not required to plead.
He was remanded to prison.

Stabroek News was told that the boy’s mother and her reputed husband were involved in a domestic violence situation on Monday. As a result she consumed kerosene oil. She was later rushed to the Skeldon hospital by her reputed husband and a rural constable. The woman’s husband was later taken into police custody for what he had done.

Whilst they were returning from the hospital they saw the suspect along with Makatnauth on the road. When they asked where they were going, he replied that they were going to get something to eat.  However when Zal returned to the family home on the following day (Tuesday) and they questioned him about the boy’s whereabouts, he told them that he crossed the child over the road for him to return home.  The body of the boy was found behind a rice mill in the community.

Pathologist,  Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan  gave the cause of death as a fractured skull. The victim also had a fractured chin and broken right hand.
