Windjammer only bidder for Parliament meals

Windjammer International Hotel and Cuisine was the only bidder to supply meals to the National Assembly over the next three years when the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board opened bids for the contract on Tuesday.

The entity has been catering for parliamentarians, parliamentary staff and the media among others over the past three years. It submitted a bid of $568,930 per parliamentary sitting. Stabroek News was also told that the cost of food and beverages could be more than the stated sum, depending on the duration of sittings of the House, meetings of the various committees and other activities. The contract also caters for the change in cost of commodities over the duration of the contract.

Tenders for the Ministry of Education were also opened for the supply and delivery of learning materials for the technical and vocational education programme at the regions Three and Five technical institutes. Two companies, B. Boodhoo ($60,290,930) and British company GDM Lindex Ltd (£141,319.52 or local equivalent $44,656,804) were the bidders.

Procurement of goods for a child-friendly school was also sought by the Ministry of Education under its Education For All-Fast Track Initiative.

This was divided into three lots as follows: Lot 1 – Portable MP3 Players with Cassette Recorder & AM and FM Radio and a Television; Lot 2 – Water Dispensers; and Lot 3 – Batteries. Six companies bid for some or all of the lots. Giftland OfficeMax entered the following bid: Lot1 – $13,600,000, Lot 2 – $140,000, and Lot 3 – $5.2M. C. Narine only placed a bid for Lot 1, which was pegged at $11M.  Orkon Construction bid: Lot 1 – $8,118,000, Lot 2 – $360,000, and Lot 3 – $2,612,000. Fix It Depot bid: Lot 1 – $10,800,000, Lot 2 – $620,000 and Lot 3 – $5,400,000. H. Dhanraj Woodworking Establishment did not give a breakdown of lots, but bid a total of $21,334,800.

Meanwhile, for Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni) tenders were opened for the construction of a bridge at Tumong. Two companies bid: Yusuf General Contracting ($13,571,000) and Troy Dainty ($10,885,520). The Engineer’s estimate was $13,998,400.

To supply a 4×4 for the Region Two Regional Democratic Council, bids came from Beharry Automotive Ltd ($6,753,272) and El Commandante Enterprise and auto spares ($6.3M).

For the supply of two minibuses for the Ministry of Sports and Culture, bids came from El Commandante Enterprise ($11M) and Car Clean Enterprise ($9.2M).
