Police continuing probe of ‘Pencil’ murder

Police officers are continuing to investigate the murder of a Corentyne labourer at Tiger Creek, approximately 15 miles up the Corentyne River.

The body of Madan Ramkirat, called `Pencil’, 25 years of Grant 1805 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne was discovered by his boss, the boss’s brother and the victim’s brother after arriving at the farm  on Tuesday morning to work.

When Stabroek News spoke to the deceased’s mother, Savatri Hira, she related that she learnt of the gruesome murder on Tuesday around 10 am from her son’s boss. “They find him in the camp lying on the ground with his body burnt and with a gunshot wound in his back…the whole camp burnt down.” According to a police press release Ramkirat sustained a gunshot injury to the chest.

Hira added that the boss returned after the discovery and alerted the police. Police afterwards went to the scene and retrieved the body.
