Gabriel regains place in Red Force team

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Fast bowler Shannon Gabriel has regained his place on the Trinidad and Tobago cricket team after recovering from an injury that forced him off.

Selectors have included Gabriel on a new look team missing eight frontline players ahead of the Asia vs. the  Caribbean four nation twenty/20 tournament which starts today.

Gabriel made an impressive Test debut for the West Indies against England in May but had to return home with a back injury.

The Queen’s Park player was diagnosed with a slip disc in his lower back.

Since then he has undergone an extensive period of rehabilitation and has now been declared fit again.

His return almost spells the end of the return of former West Indies pacer Mervyn Dillon who was chosen for a couple of games in his absence.

Gabriel is part of a 14 man squad announced by the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) Tuesday to participate in the Asia versus the Caribbean T20 tournament which also includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Barbados.

The Red Force will be led by all rounder Rayad Emrit as they compete for a first prize of US$50,000 in the three-day tournament.

Also included on the team are former captain Daren Ganga, fit again Kevon Cooper, Queen’s Park left arm spinner Kharey Pierre and talented hard hitting opener Justin Guillen.
