Nurse, relatives caught with $100,000 of cocaine

A 47-year-old registered nurse is expected to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate tomorrow charged with possession of 500 grammes of cocaine worth an estimated $100,000.

The woman along with her son and daughter-in-law were arrested last Friday afternoon at their Baird Street, Carenage, home by a team of officers from the North Eastern Divisional Task Force led by Sgt Roger Alexander and including Cpl Sunil Bharath and PC Lezama.

Police said they received information about the family and around 2 p.m. they went to the house where they allegedly found cocaine hidden in a plastic bag inside a cooler in the kitchen.

Police said the cocaine was that of a very pure grade and had a relatively high street value.

Western Division detectives are continuing investigations.

In an unrelated incident, 14 people were arrested between 10 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. yesterday during roadblock operations in the San Juan, Aranjuez, Mt Lambert and Morvant areas.

Police said they handed out 38 tickets and arrested 14 for failing breathalyser tests.
