Child protection agency hosting rally in Region Five

The Childcare and Protection Agency in Region Five is hosting a rally on Friday to close its week-long activities aimed at compelling adults to protect children from abuse.

The unit launched its Child Protection Week in the region on Sunday with an inter-faith service held in the compound of the regional office, joining with others across the country to stamp out child abuse.

Incorporating the theme ‘Adults Take Action against Child Abuse: The Time is Now,’ Child Protection Officer Gloria Davidson urged adults to act to prevent children from suffering at the hands of their abusers. She also urged the public to “come out and support the big showdown and rally” set for Friday at 9 am which is being held in collaboration with the education department. The rally starts at Onverwagt and will conclude with a small ceremony at the Bush Lot Secondary School.

The programme continued on Monday with a seminar for parents at the Technical Institute at Mahaicony and another one at yesterday at the Lachmansingh Primary School at Bush Lot. An open interactive programme is being held today for the public at Rosignol. The objective of this session is to allow persons to discuss “pressing issues” on the topic and for the distribution of educational materials.
