Karibee Rice football tourney off to lukewarm start

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) sanctioned Karibee Rice tournament sponsored by Karibee Rice Company got off to a lukewarm start over the weekend with only one of the four games scheduled for the weekend being played.

At the Georgetown Football Club ground, Georgetown’s BK Western Tigers swamped Young Achievers of West Demerara 10- 1.  At half time the score was 2 – 1.

Young Achievers were a replacement for Dem Amstel FC who opted out owing to receiving the fixture late.

BK Western Tigers Phillip Rowley netted a hat trick scoring in the 25th, 72nd and 80th minutes while Gavin Wilson netted a double in the 56th and 76th minutes and Rensford Coldridge also scored two goals in the 60th and 67th minutes.

The remaining goals were scored by Orville Milton in the fifth minute,  Randolph Wagner in the 50th minute and Leon Yaw in the 74th minute.

Young Achievers lone goal was scored in the 27th min.

On Saturday at the Burnham Park, Monnederlust FC of West Berbice earned a walkover from Pistons FC of East Berbice.

The following day, at the Burnham Park venue, the scheduled game between Cougars FC of East Berbice and Rosignol United FC of West Berbice was unable to be played due to the unplayable condition of the ground.

This game has been rescheduled for Saturday at the Number Five Ground.

The game between Pele FC and Victoria Kings was also not played as the Victoria Kings team was a no show.

Pele was awarded a walk over by the organisers.

The semi-finals are set for this Sunday.
