Murdered man’s remains attacked by rats at GPHC

The relatives of murdered Alberttown mechanic, Brian Assannah were enraged yesterday after discovering that the man’s face was partially eaten by rats while being kept at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary.

“Today was the post-mortem examination and I went to the hospital. As I was about to identify my son, I observe something wrong with his face.

The left side of his face under the nose, something eat it out along with the nose. I was so disturbed,” the dead man’s father, Brian Assannah Senior, told Stabroek News yesterday.

Assannah, popularly known by his middle name ‘Sule’, was knifed to death by another man who was being arrested by a police officer at the corner of Fourth and Light streets in Alberttown around 8:30 on Sunday evening.

This newspaper was told by the dead man’s father that he met with the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Khan, who said that he had been informed of what had happened.
