I can now empathize with those who suffered in the Agricola road blockage

Dear Editor,

To sympathize with persons who were traumatized last week as they were caught up in the Agricola road blockage etc is vastly different when you find yourself in the real time situation which was partly experienced on Monday and I can now empathize with them.

I left for the city yesterday afternoon via the E.B road which had a Police presence and returned shortly on reaching my destination about 5.05 p.m. but as I got to Broad Street something did not look right with the number of vehicles and their slow movement. As I reached the Industrial road my suspicions were confirmed-it was panic Mini Buses were “undertaking” on the parapet at break-neck speed. At the Houston junction there was a minor vehicular accident whilst vehicles rushed to use the inner roads through to Agricola. Then came the shock – vehicles going south were turned back as traffic north bound reverted to the east lane. I quickly got across to the Gafoor road whilst some vehicles opted to return to town. I decided to wait and in a few minutes the corridor was re-opened. Again I inched my way across with other vehicles to the east lane and sped off south bound.  There were rumours of which I would not repeat which all contributed to the trauma.

As I passed Agricola I waved to every police presence a thank you for an experience I never was so “blessed” not even in the 1962/63 riots when  I’d lived overseas.

I am not a member of any political party- never was and never will but I exercise my franchise at elections time.

When will we ever learn that Guyana belongs to us all and no finger pointing will resolve our problems? Peace loving citizens can never accept these dastardly acts.

Yours faithfully,
