PI into murder of Sophia woman begins

Four witnesses testified yesterday as the preliminary inquiry (PI) began into the murder charge against  Paul Anthony Lo Hing, who is accused of strangling his partner to death at Sophia in August.

Lo Hing is charged with murdering Shoala Gilgeous, 23, on August 26, at ‘E’ Field, South Sophia.

Alana Gilgeous, a sister of the deceased, Monica Charles, a sister of Lo Hing, Detective Constable Steve Rockliffe, who took pictures of Gilgeous’ body at the crime scene, and a minor were the witnesses who testified.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who is presiding over the PI at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, adjourned the matter to October 22, when Gilgeous’ brother and some other witnesses will take the stand.

Prior to Gilgeous’ death, the couple had been living together for about 10 months and Gilgeous’ relatives and friends said that she was a victim of domestic abuse and had made numerous reports to police as a result of episodes.
