-ganja in crotch accused tells court

Colin Mansonhing, who was allegedly held with marijuana in his crotch at the Ogle Airport, was yesterday remanded to prison.

It is alleged that Mansonhing, 25, of Lot 377 Turkeyen Housing Scheme, on October 19, at Ogle Airport, had in his possession 464 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

But Mansonhing, who appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, said he had placed his bag on the table to be checked at the airport and right next to it was another bag which did not belong to him.

The man explained that he was a miner who had just come out of the interior.

He further noted that when his bag was searched and they began to search the other, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officer stopped him and placed him under arrest for the substance which was found in the other bag. Prosecutor Winneth Hubbard, however, told the court that Mansonhing was no miner and he had a similar matter pending before the court.

He had both bags in his possession, Hubbard stated, adding that when the CANU ranks performed the required search on the bag, they found and a black bag which contained a number of leaves and stems suspected to be marijuana. A further search was done and uncovered more of the said substances in the crotch of his pants, she added.

Mansonhing, who was in disbelief at the allegations, maintained that he had no knowledge of the bag and he appealed for reasonable bail, while noting that he had a very small child to care for.

Magistrate Lovell, however, remanded the accused until November 6, when the case is to be called again in Court One.
