Carpenter forged passport to travel to T&T, didn’t make it

Azim Gafoor, who admitted to forging an expired passport to travel to Trinidad and Tobago for business, was yesterday fined $75,000 by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

On October 16, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, Gafoor, with intent to defraud, uttered a forged Guyanese passport to immigration officer Monica Wayne, knowing the document to be forged.

No further details about the offence were provided to the court.

Gafoor’s lawyer, Paul Fung-a-Fat, noted that his client has business in Trinidad and needed to return, but instead of reporting to the immigration office, he forged the document.

He described his client as a married father of two, who is a carpenter.

Gafoor was fined $75,000 with an alternative of six months imprisonment.
