The children’s father said he had decided that his children should go to his wife’s relatives because he would not be able to take care of them owing to his job, which involves working in the nights. The man also said that he will be visiting his children regularly.

Sooknanan also told this newspaper yesterday that officials from the Health Ministry are yet to make contact with him regarding his wife’s death. He is also still awaiting an answer as to why his wife was transferred from New Amsterdam to Georgetown without his knowledge.

Kaimattie delivered a healthy baby boy by c-section at the New Amsterdam Hospital but died the next day as she was being transferred to Georgetown Hospital. A post-mortem examination stated that she died of haemorrhaging.
