Mark De Abreu turns himself in

Charlestown resident Mark De Abreu, who was wanted in connection with the October 15 execution of Ricardo Rodrigues, yesterday morning, turned himself in to police, in the company of his lawyer.

Police had issued a wanted bulletin for him last week.
Up to press time last evening he was still in police custody and according to police sources, no one else has been held in connection with the case. One of Rodrigues’ bodyguards had been detained, but he was later released.

Around 3 pm a group of men, numbering between four and five walked into the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club and opened fire. Rodrigues was killed and three men wounded during the attack.

Rodrigues, who had close ties with convicted drug lord Shaheed Roger Khan, who is currently serving a sentence in a US jail, was said to be the target. Over the years until the time of his death, Rodrigues had been implicated in drugs and gun related crimes but was never charged. His death was said to be linked to “guns for drugs”.

Days before his death, police released him on station bail 24 hours after he turned himself in for questioning in connection with a cache of arms and ammunition that was found in Lethem. In that case, police had issued a wanted bulletin for Rodrigues and his cousin Clive King.
King remains at large, with reports indicating that he is hiding out in Brazil.
