Cane harvester charged with carpenter murder

At the Blairmont Court yesterday, Magistrate Roby Benn denied a 20-year-old cane harvester his pre-trial liberty when he appeared before him charged with murder.

The court heard that around 9:45 pm on Saturday, October 27, Rakesh Janak of Zorg-en-Hoop chopped Brentnol Isaacs to death.

Attorney-at-law, Tejnarine Ramroop, representing Janak, submitted that his client is a “quiet person and hardly talks when he is on the road.”

Ramroop also told the court that Janak never had any problems with the police. The defendant is scheduled to return to court on November 27.

Isaacs, 32, of Ithaca sustained chop wounds to his stomach and arm. He was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he was treated.

He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital and was said to have died on his way in the ambulance.
